details. >> we are here to try to get our fire station back. >> reporter: but according to contra costa county fire officials it doesn?t look like that will be happening anytime soon. tuesday fire station 16 in lafayette was one of four in contra costa county that was closed due to money constraints. worse times theres now a fear that fire response time, which is already below standards in contra costa county, will increase even more. >> when you start cutting service things get worse. >> reporter: fire crews say the reason that these stations have closed is because property tax revenues have dropped and the tax measure to pick up the cost on those lost revenues was voted down. now those who live in this area are just hopeful we don?t see a worst case scenario.

>> there is going to be a big lack time. >> this lasted for over 90 minutes. and they are talking about using ambulatory services for response times and emergency calls. reporting a contra costa county, j. r. stone, kron 4 news. >> pam: and now to a developing story. japan's transport ministry says all boeing 7-8-7 planes are being grounded for safety checks. one of the 7-8-7s operated by all nippon airways made an emergency landing today in western japan after a cockpit message showed battery problems. no one was hurt. but passengers reported a burning smell in the cabin. it's the latest in a series of problems including a battery fire and fuel leaks.

san francisco police have named a suspect in a vicious robbery in the tenderloin. police say the man stole money from a woman and killed her dog during the robbery kron4's alecia reid reports. >> running away from the scene of the crime.

afternoon the mother said that her daughter was missing. home owners in one san mateo neighborhood are cheering the city council for voting to close down a 7-11 that was in violation of zoning laws. kron four's jeff bush explains why people were upset and how the store opened in the first place. >> reporter: it's not every day that a 7-11 store is the center of controversy but that's the case with this store in san mateo at the corner of san mateo drive

and bellvue. they have been operating for about a month in this neighborhood but residents in this area complained to the city and said this store is operating illegally and outside the city's zoning laws. >> peter breining , san mateo heights neighborhood assn: there was no determination that this was ever legal by the city, yet, here we are so, there is some process at the city that we don't know about. a building permit was issued to convert the old stangallini's deli into this 7-11 but that doesn't confer legality on the property and that is the issue. neighbors say whoever issued the building permit should have studied the map before issuing it in the first placeand, should have known this is a residentially zoned area of town. garbage trucks, loitering and other things that go along with a store like this were the main reasons for complaining to the city about the 7-11. the city attorney says the council's decision was the right one and the process has already begun. it is unclear how long the store will stay open but the owners can expect corrospondence from the city soontelling them to shut the doors for good. i'm jeff bush in san mateo, kron four news.

>> there was a bigger than expected turnout today, at the marin county 'gun buy back' program. hundreds of firearms were collected during the event. which was planned in reaction to the 'sandy hook elementary' school massacre. people walked away with as much as two- hundred dollars per gun, no questions asked. it was such a success, that the county ran through the 43-thousand dollars it had raised. in only two hours. a spokesperson for the san rafael police department. gave us a look at some of the more dangerous weapons collected. is a semi-automatic sawed off shot gun and it is illegal because the barrel is sawwed off but just

getting one of these guns off the street is a step in the right direction. >> after running out of cash, the county handed out vouchers to those who didn't want to just voluntarily give away their guns. the district attorney says, he will try and raise the money needed to pay people back in the next 30 days. they plan to hand out more vouchers at another gun buy back which is planned for the martin luther king day holiday. here are the final numbers. a total of 827 guns were turned in. in novato 227 were taken off the streets san rafael 223. in central marin 206 guns were turned in. 71 guns were collected in marin city. and 50 guns were taken in point reyes. >> police officers in the town of galt. outside sacramento. are mourning the loss of one of their own. after he was gunned down in the line of duty investigators say, 35-year- old officer kevin tonn. was killed by a burglary
